The Search for the Master

4/21/11 @ 34,000 feet

Hope and fantasy are the only currency and are they running thin or is it only the energies I find myself interacting with lately? I’ve been looking for something, someone to answer my questions directly, someone to make sense of the height of indecision and confusion I see from my perspective. Someone put it better to me the other day, ‘ Where’s the Energy gone?’ she said. Can I be everywhere to know that isn’t true, I feel energy in music and nature but humans are facing a hangover from rapid change unmatched in all of history, the result confusion. Where are our decisive leaders, our forward thinkers and ARE WE ready to listen to them?

Months ago we developed the philosophy about the search for the master and discussed within my musical family the continual search for mentors and masters. It was decided there is no one master but an amalgam of lessons pulled from peoples and nature’s actions and intentions. Many of those expected to be masterful often let us down when viewed in the obvious light. We must look deeper to their inactions to learn profound lessons about continued personal growth and integration with self and with the world. For what does it mean to ‘BE” anything, what is the act of ‘being’. It certainly doesn’t reveal itself at a particular checkpoint or graduation rather it is gradual and subtle. To be, you cannot be trying to please anyone but yourself and as Joseph Campbell said, ‘Follow your Bliss’. To be more specific in our search for mentors, shall we look for modern heroes and understand they must be flawed for their intentions aren’t to be our heroes. We should not be disappointed in their flaws and we should aspire to have our own flaws in our quest for awareness. Flaws only exist in perfection, and perfection is uniqueness in action, thought, and intention. As societies, can we try to find some guiding lights, to rise above our simple defenses of the mind and voice and capture a higher clarity? Open your mind to the possibility that nature is the only thing that truly exists, things as they are. You’re critical interpretation and judgment of any one thing facilitate growths. The laws of nature are the guiding lights and the masters pull them out through their actions and inaction, often unintentionally.
